Blue Zones® Approved Project

In 2017, Rose Villa was approved as a Blue Zones®  project, a designation that indicates we are a place where people live longer, healthier lives. Dubbed “longevity hot spots,” the concept means that blue zone areas share specific lifestyle habits that contribute to their being a healthy place to live. Being Blue Zones® certified benefits Rose Villa residents and staff, because it promotes wellness in our community in a variety of ways, such as providing staff access to the fitness and pool facilities, providing financial and health education seminars, and nutrition classes. Rose Villa’s commitment to employee wellness has earned recognition year over year as being one of Portland’s Healthiest Employers, and placing 2nd in the 2022 awards.

René Swar

Director of Wellness

I have been in the fitness industry for 33 years and love helping others make fitness a part of their lifestyle. I get a lot of satisfaction watching people discover that they can move and challenge themselves in a way previously thought not possible. At Rose Villa we promote a culture of wellness across our campus incorporating the six dimensions of wellness; emotional, intellectual, physical, social, spiritual and vocational. My job is to develop and implement the RiverPoint Wellness programming for every fitness level and ability. I am a Certified Personal Trainer and teach group fitness classes to both residents and staff and enjoy working one on one with residents to achieve their fitness goals. I also coach Rose Villa's Viking Dragon boat during the Rose Festival races.
