Who doesn’t remember Sonny and Cher Bono at the height of their fame? Two young musicians who found melodic and personal harmony and produced a number of hall of fame hits changed musical history forever. Many, however, may not know that their daughter Chastity later transitioned from female to male. In one of her famous quotes, Chaz (now male) states: "I've been embraced by a new community. That's what happens when you’re finally honest about who you are; you find others like you.” For many of our residents, moving to Rose Villa is a similar experience.

As a nation, a state, a city and a neighborhood, June honors Pride Month. What does #Pride mean to you? For many in our Rose Villa community, it means finding a place of connection, acceptance, openness and honesty. For some of our residents, living at Rose Villa may be the first time they are able to live their lives on their terms, with choices and opportunities that previously may have seemed unattainable. For some, this is the new community they’ve sought, where they can be honest and find encouragement and acceptance from everyone, not just those who are the same! What a revelation! What a gift!

The beauty of Rose Villa is the knitted community we offer to everyone who arrives here. Whether single, widowed, married or coupled, residents arrive eager to embark on a shared journey of discovery, adventure, comfort and friendship. What more could one ask for in their older years? Nothing less than acceptance, love and companionship. At its heart, this is the draw of Rose Villa: our community. Most certainly the architecture, services and amenities are appealing: but strip this away without friendship and connection and you are left with structures and programs, none of which reflect the interdependence and heart of our neighborhood.

As June gently sways her way forward, we’ve taken this moment to pause and reflect on the gift of our community and connectedness. In so many ways, she shows her heart: from our gardens, Green Team and Pet Owners Support Team (POST), to our warm and lovely restaurant servers, to our drivers and CNAs and so many more. We are a community woven by connection and care. What an honor.

These reasons, and so many more, are why we have new prospects continually reaching out to learn more about life at Rose Villa. Encouraging these individuals to attend one of our Life Plan 101 gatherings is another way that Rose Villa staff and residents extend a hand to those who feel the pull to our culture and neighborhood. Sharing our vision and community with future residents is truly our Pride.

Please feel free to comment about what #Pride means to you, either as a current or future resident.
